The Serendipity of Spring

Ah Spring...I am grateful she is presenting herself!

Yesterday was a gloriously warm, sunny Saturday and St. Patrick's Day to boot. Could have proved to be a deadly combination for those who chose to start drinking at the bar in the wee morning  as a prelude to watching the parade on seven flat screens.
On our stroll through SoNo, we found bar doors wide open with green and white bedecked bouncers and balloons spilling out of them. They pitched "Jameson shots for 5 bucks" and "kegs and eggs"which consisted of all the eggs you can eat and all the Budweiser you could drink. Another deadly combination. None of it attracted me.
Our day was lovely none the less as I found my conversations with shopkeepers and people along the way so much more satisfying than strong drink. I was grateful for every one of them. I experienced the serendipity of Spring.
I am compulsively relational. I enjoy people but more to the point I need them.
I do think I would wither and die without a good conversation, whether it be for moments or hours.
In fact, some of my most meaningful and poignant exchanges with strangers have come in moments. Through a look, an expression, or a gesture that says "I get it".
Sometimes it's all I need to keep going...it brings me oxygen.
The human exchange can make the unbearable, bearable.
When we are understood, we are heard and when we are heard we are loved.
Often times just a gesture can take the pressure off.

With the weather getting better everyday, and all of us outside, may we all enjoy the serendipitous pleasure of meeting new people along our way.  Delighting in the exchange that says "I get it" and of course, always,  a good conversation.
